Try to avoid this landlord, or if you really can't get around them, at least take out a legal aid insurance (and maybe life insurance?) beforehand. The owners inherited the properties from their father, who used to deal with his tenants in a somewhat respectful and honest manner. If he knew how the business was now being run, he would probably turn in his grave. When you invoke your basic rights as a tenant, they act as if you're trying to pull the wool over their eyes. A friend of mine who also rented from them was so badly treated on the phone that she no longer dared to call them. We had a broken CV boiler where the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning (and thus death) was high according to the technician, but they refused to approve the repair, 'because it's too expensive'. So this is a company that would rather let its tenants literally choke to death than have them spend a few thousand euros on a repair, while they own properties worth millions of euros. Reports about this were not handled resolutely by the municipality to my surprise. Last tip: don't pay your last month's rent, because you'll never see your deposit back again. They sometimes send a legal threat but they never follow through because they know that they are so clearly dishonest that they would never win in court.
