I am genuinely surprised to see so many positive reviews about this real estate agency, given our absolutely disastrous experience. They rented us a house where everything was broken, under the pretext that it belonged to a Russian girl who ultimately refused to return our deposit until we threatened to report her to the authorities. Here is the full story for those who want to know the details: Due to the pandemic, we had to move from Italy to the Netherlands and because we couldn’t travel, we placed our trust in this real estate agency. We relied on them to find an apartment without us being able to visit it personally. Upon arrival, we discovered that everything in the house was broken: the heating (we endured weeks of cold and were dependent on our neighbors for showers), the oven, the dishwasher, the gas fireplace and even the curtains were dilapidated. It took them six months to get electricity in one of the bedrooms. We were also misled about the rental duration. We were certain that the contract was for 'indefinite time', but when the lease arrived, it turned out to be a two-year contract. When we contacted them, they claimed it was just a formality for the owner, who supposedly was open to extension. We trusted their word and chose schools for our two children, a doctor and a vet for our two cats. A year and a half later, we requested the promised extension, as we thought this would be just a formality because we had been ideal tenants: we always paid on time and got along well with the neighbors. To our dismay, they stopped and claimed it was too early to make a decision. We naively waited until the last moment, but then received a message that we had to leave the apartment under penalty of high fines. Only then did we discover, as foreigners, that in the Netherlands a two-year contract is rarely extended because it would automatically be converted into an indefinite term contract. The owner never intended to extend the rental agreement, and the agency was complicit in this fraud. The worst part? The alleged owner, a Russian student, turned out to be the sister-in-law of the real owner, a Dutchman, likely a trick to evade taxes. After leaving the apartment in impeccable condition, they tried to withhold our deposit. Only after we threatened to report them to the tax office and the immigration office did they finally give us back our money. This agency should thoroughly investigate their landlords instead of enabling fraudulent behavior, especially when it comes to expats who are not familiar with Dutch law. I expected better from an agency called 'Expat & Real Estate Professionals', particularly that they would prioritize the interests of their expat clients and ensure that the properties they represent are in good condition. I hope this review helps others avoid the mistake of trusting this agency as we did.

Five years ago house purchased through Maarten. That was fine so automatically chose Maarten Makelaardij again when selling the house. This time unfortunately a bad experience gained. Why? Maarten Makelaardij was careless in drafting the advertisement (full of errors and inaccuracies) and measuring the property, communication proceeded sluggishly and furthermore they had a passive attitude regarding sales. When discussing the complaints, these are acknowledged but as a solution it is recommended to look for another real estate agent. Subsequently, a buyer appeared at the last minute, but the time was changed and not communicated, causing the viewer to be much too early and we ultimately had to give the tour ourselves. A date in the preliminary purchase agreement was incorrect. Shortly before the transfer with the notary, we were called by Maarten; the settlement from the notary has not been checked for accuracy and they will ‘try to see if they can quickly fix this’ - not done. In the report of the final inspection there is a photo of 1 meter (instead of 2). This is not a disaster, but again careless. Despite acknowledging errors and poor service, no compensation in calculated costs or discount on brokerage fee. In short, the communication, guidance and service are, as far as we are concerned, very substandard. This was absolutely disappointing and we cannot recommend Maarten Makelaardij. The house has been sold, but not thanks to Maarten Makelaardij. I would almost say; despite Maarten Makelaardij.
