This is really a bad realtor. They just lie to your face. A property where there were already multiple complaints is rented out without mentioning anything about it. Fix everything if you want to leave after three months because the noise pollution is too heavy and you're stuck with a contract. I wouldn't do business with this realtor.

In a short time, we found our dream house. We were looking ourselves, but with the help of our real estate agent, it went much faster than we thought. We've been working on this for quite some time, it was initially sold but people couldn't secure the financing, so the entire process had to start again. The second time around, it was sold within 3 weeks and €8000 more than the first time, but still below the asking price. Guidance was good.

Disclaimer: My partner left a review in Dutch before me, but I wanted to document my experience as well to hopefully help non-Dutch speakers find their own home. For a year, we worked with Mark and his colleagues at Burger Van Leeuwen until we found a property that best suited our wishes and budget. We are so grateful for their unwavering professional support! I've lost track of the number of properties Mark viewed with us, making super sharp assessments of the quality of the property, aside from its appearance. He went to great lengths to investigate the construction and maintenance of every place we looked together. Occasionally he dissuaded us from absolutely impulsive purchases (three to be precise) that literally 'looked so cute,' we couldn't imagine what could go wrong. Well, Mark did, and he honestly told us what kind of problems typically arise, so we could make an informed decision. Although my partner is Dutch, we only recently moved to the Netherlands for work and had no prior knowledge of Dutch building styles, materials (such as where asbestos likely sits or a hidden gas tank in the garden that would cost a fortune to remove), wear and tear, hidden costs, legal complexities such as ground lease and when we should worry about those. Something I felt uncomfortable with when we started looking for houses was bidding on the winning price, which is the practice here for all properties we viewed. I had never bid before and found the whole process difficult to understand. Mark, however, is a skilled negotiator! He knows the market well and does extra research into the value of each property. He supported us throughout the entire purchase cycle, including technically assessing the home, signing the sales agreement, the final inspection, and the transfer of the property to us at the notary's office. In summary, I can wholeheartedly recommend Burger Van Leeuwen if you want to buy a house in The Hague.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Mark and the rest of the BvL team. Not only did they help us find our dream house, but thanks to their strategy during the bidding process, they also earned back their service costs. He crawls under floors, finds hidden defects that the real estate agent didn't even seem aware of, and clearly has a lot of knowledge about the different houses we viewed.
