We had a terrible experience with Verhuurmakelaar. As expats and new to the country, we relied on Rental Agency to help us find a house and assist with the rental process. But they were the least helpful. They didn't share any property listings with us. We had to search ourselves. During check-in, they did not inspect the house or report existing damage. And during check-out as well, we received no real assistance from them. I would not recommend anyone to use their services.

Not the cheapest but they repaired themselves twice with the services they provided. They work for what's best for their clients and deeply care about getting you the best deal possible.

What an experience with the rental company... On the preliminary contract they gave us, the address was incorrect... Seems like a scam. Glad we noticed! According to them, it was just a mistake... We gave them a second chance because we needed to find a place to live. They sent us the contract, but some parts of it were unclear, especially one. When we asked questions, they weren't answered in a professional manner, which increased our concerns about the seriousness of this agency. Nevertheless, because we ultimately decided to look for another agency that better cares for their clients, they asked us to pay cancellation fees... Scandalous.

A very positive experience, Chantal took the time to understand our preferences, what was important to us and then target ideal properties for us to view. The team went above and beyond during a lengthy negotiation.

Be very careful when collaborating with Chantal if you are an expat and the tenant/renter. Upon check-in, she intentionally did not report existing damage that was absolutely clear in one of her photos, such as large scratches on the floor from the previous tenant and paint splatters on the wall. When settling up, she treated me like a child and tried to pin me down. Luckily, I took my own photos upon check-in which proved that she was completely wrong about all the damage she discovered. Upon check-out, she even commented on ridiculous things, such as dust particles on a light switch and a crumb in a drawer, stating that the apartment had to be professionally cleaned. Which was actually not true, since in the rental agreement it stated that the apartment only needed to be swept. She said she found a spiderweb in the bedroom and even asked if I had 'nightmares' about it. She spoke Dutch with the landlord so I couldn’t understand it. Luckily, the landlord did the right thing, remembered that the scratches were from her previous colleague-tenant and withheld nothing from my deposit. It was the most terrible and humiliating experience I have had in ten years of living in the Netherlands. If you are the landlord, you can be sure that she will probably be great and on your side to ensure that the tenant loses part of their deposit.

Both Mark and Chantal were great and flexible, and very understanding about how expats, to some extent, need to receive information that most Amsterdam residents already know. Friendly professional agency. Partly due to the good relationship with the owner, they were able to ensure a quick processing time. Proactive and responsive to customer needs: we visited one apartment, but when it became clear that this was not suitable for us, they quickly found an alternative that turned out to be exactly what we needed.

I had a problem with them this week, when I contacted the agency to try and anticipate a visit and was told that the apartment was already rented (although I had an appointment scheduled). They explained their process, that they only cancel appointments if they are certain the apartment is rented. I gave them my honest feedback to try and improve the process and they were open to listening to me, which I appreciated. They also offered me help to find another place. We exchanged a few emails and I am happy that we were able to arrange it in a good, positive way.

Worst realtor. Can't even answer a phone call or follow up as agreed. Unprofessional and arrogant. In response to your comment: the only reason you are contacting me now is because I wrote the Google review. It’s quite ‘funny’ how much value you place on an online review than on your actual potential clients. So don't twist my words, I have no further interest in being contacted by you and this review will remain forever :)

I was apartment hunting in AMS without a real estate agent. I saw 8 different places with 8 different agents representing their offers. After reading all those lovely reviews, I really wanted to try this bureau and I quickly made an appointment with Chantal last Friday, but she forgot to come and didn't inform me. I thought I would give her another chance and we made an appointment again on Tuesday, and again she forgot and only wrote two hours later that she had forgotten.

This is a true example. Answering all questions quickly and arranging viewings was easy. Chantal was incredibly helpful and ensured we found a good place that met our needs. Even after we signed a contract, Chantal made sure everything was perfect! Utility contracts, internet or anything else to get us on our way. Recommended!
