Makelaar Pascal voldoet keurig aan de bingokaart aan vooroordelen die mensen over makelaars hebben. Net iets te amicaal, net iets te arrogant en als hij zijn zin niet krijgt neerbuigend, kortom, een beroerde attitude. Wij wilden een afspraak maken om een huis op de Korfwaterweg in Petten te bezichtigen. Een huis met een vraagprijs van een ruime 1,3 miljoen euro. Graag op zaterdag indien dat mogelijk was. En jawel, wat fijn, dat was mogelijk maar wel alleen om 10 uur ‘‘s ochtends. Dat kwam Pascal het beste uit want dan kon hij de afspraak mooi combineren met andere kijkers op dezelfde dag. Daar had ik best begrip voor, maar 10 uur was voor ons niet mogelijk. ‘Kunnen jullie dan niet een beetje op tijd van huis vertrekken?’ vroeg Pascal enigszins verheven. Nee, helaas niet, maar voor ons geen probleem, dan kijk ik wel in onze agenda of we op een ander moment samen kunnen bezichtigen en dan kom ik daar later op terug. Pascal bleek opeens toch wel een afspraak met ons in zijn agenda te willen zetten dus vroeg mij naar onze gegevens. Telefoonnummer, natuurlijk. E-mail adres, akkoord. Geen probleem. Maar ook onze huidige postcode en huisnummer. Sorry, waar zijn de postcode en het huisnummer voor nodig? Meteen sloeg de sfeer om, volgens Pascal deed niemand moeilijk over het verstrekken van die gegevens en waarom zou ik ze niet geven, wat had ik te verbergen? Vervolgens begon Pascal een neerbuigende preek waarin hij vertelde dat hij handelt in huizen in het exclusieve segment waarbij zijn klanten dure kunst aan de muur hebben hangen. Hij wil graag weten wie hij rondleidt. Dat begrijp ik best, maar dat geeft hem nog steeds niet het recht om op neerbuigende toon te verwachten, zelfs te eisen, dat ik hem onze huidige postcode en huisnummer verstrek. Een paar minuten na ons gesprek heb ik Pascal teruggebeld en hem aangegeven dat het telefoongesprek mij totaal niet was bevallen en dat wij verder kijken. Pascal deed mij denken aan een autoverkoper een aantal jaar geleden. Die beste man had een nieuw model elektrische auto in de aanbieding en bij het vragen naar een proefrit sneerde hij dat proefritten alleen voor klanten waren. Hij beoordeelde mijn inkomen en vermogenspositie op basis van zijn vooroordeel over jonge mensen, net zoals makelaar Pascal onder andere onze positie graag wilde beoordelen aan de hand van onze huidige postcode en huisnummer. Wellicht dat het voor Pascal normaal is dat potentiële kopers volledig buigen naar de wensen van de verkopend makelaar, maar vandaag had hij aan mij de verkeerde. Ik hoef zijn aanbod niet te kopen, noch hoef ik zijn attitude te accepteren. Tevens geloof ik niet dat ik vroeger met Pascal geknikkerd heb, het amicale gedrag met in elke zin het gebruik van mijn voornaam mag ook achterwege blijven. De verkopers van deze woning zijn vandaag een potentiële koper en bieder misgelopen, puur door de houding van hun makelaar. Update 26-06-2026; Makelaar Pascal blijkt het chique te vinden om mijn achternaam in zijn reactie te benadrukken. Het laat zien dat discretie Pascal vreemd is, discretie is toch iets wat je wel zou verwachten in het exclusieve segment. @Pascal, het geeft niet hoor, ik heb er geen last van, uw potentiële opdrachtgevers of uw klanten wellicht wel. De door u gegraven kuil wordt enkel maar dieper.
