Frustrated! That's the best way I can describe my personal experience with Brockhoff Makelaars. I have been trying to rent a property from Brockhoff for two weeks. I found a property, created an IDD profile and submitted the available documents. Then everything started to become confusing... Brockhoff asked for documents that were not available, such as an income statement (IB60), an extract from the Basic Administration (BBA), a declaration from the landlord... Come on, I moved to Amsterdam 20 days ago, how do you expect me to have such documents? But I did provide the following: BSN number, bank account number, copy of identity document (residence permit), two payslips, a statement from the candidate, an employer's declaration with gross salary,... Eventually I heard that 'it is better to rent from a private landlord...' Just frustrated.

The broker and colleagues' setup was pleasant and professional. This has removed a lot of worries.

I always find it nice and important that a larger company can still give you a personal and involved feeling, and you certainly find that at Brockhoff. Buying and selling a house is an intense period and then it is important that you can trust your real estate agent.

Their website is a complete disaster. You have to enter a significant amount of personal data (including your passport number!) to be eligible for a viewing! As if finding a home with a realtor in Amsterdam wasn't frustrating enough. Every change to your 'profile' on the website results in a new confirmation email. I’ve received over 10 emails, just confirmations of the small changes I made to my profile. Why? Just why. I am not convinced that this company stores all this personal data in accordance with GDPR. With the amount of personal data people have to enter to view a property, they store a lot and it could go seriously wrong if there is a data leak. There are simply too many other realtors in Amsterdam to do business with without having to put so much effort into arranging a viewing. I’m going somewhere else to do business.

Before I bought my house in Amstelveen, I contacted many real estate agents. With this agency, I was very cautious because their business model consists of pricing houses too high and waiting for someone who is rich/frustrated/foolish enough to pay what they want. Take a look at the houses on Funda that have been for sale for a long time in the Amstelveen area; you will see that many of them are from this real estate agency. So think carefully if you buy a house through them!

I would definitely not recommend this agency. I have dealt with several brokers within this office and they all have the same 'attitude'. There is no response to serious offers, you are not called back, and if there are defects in your purchased home, you will have caused them yourself as you're just getting a foot in the door.
