Really bad experience with this company. I came from London to meet them and they cancelled the appointment that day three times. On the last occasion, they lied to me several times on the phone and made various promises that they did not keep. When I complained, they assured me that this was not their way of doing business, and continued to mislead me and waste my time. It was a total wasted seven-day trip to Amsterdam. Avoid these people, especially if you are not Dutch.

Very good experience had as both buyer (twice) and seller. The real estate agent genuinely cares about finding a property that suits the needs of the buyer, and clearly has very good knowledge of the market. The communication is proactive and pleasant. An unreliable real estate agent is someone you should avoid if you're an expat. In the spring of 2018, when I moved to Amsterdam for work, I was looking for temporary furnished accommodation for 6-12 months until I could identify a property to buy. I chose a property on Valkenburgerstraat rented out by Ter Haar Makelaars, including weekly cleaning, parking, access to the gym/wellness in the building and storage with a high deposit of €7000. The first problem arose when I finally received the rental agreement and the corresponding English version from real estate agent C. Eshuis, which I had to request multiple times. The English version did not match the Dutch version and I had to complain that I would not sign the document unless I understood what was in it. Within a day of finally receiving the correct version, Mr. Eshuis challenged me to sign the rental agreement and threatened to withdraw the property if I didn't sign. High-pressure tactics which are unprofessional. When finalizing the rental agreement, I made several agreements about the inventory and cleaning, which were agreed upon. Upon moving in, none of the conditions were met and I did not receive a key for the mail slot. Despite having filed a complaint with Mr. Eshuis, he essentially said that I should discuss it with the owner, Mrs. A. Wildenberg. Four months later, I was lucky enough to be able to quickly purchase real estate and cancelled the lease. The owner informed me that she would then put the property up for sale, with MTH acting as the agent. She asked if the agent could take some photos for the sale and that they would arrange a ‘special’ cleaning for the photoshoot. When I returned home after the photoshoot, I thought I had been robbed. Mrs. Wildenberg had instructed the cleaner to remove all my belongings and place them in the laundry room. My belongings were piled high in dirty trash cans, including food and my toiletries (toothbrushes and so on). I had to throw away hundreds of euros worth of food and items. Again the reaction from MTH, discuss it with Mrs. Wildenberg! She entered my house under false pretenses and destroyed my belongings. When I finally left, MTH confirmed upon check-out that the accommodation was returned in an acceptable condition and without damage and that my full deposit of €7000 should be refunded, which was documented in writing. I insisted on a complete inventory at check-in to protect myself. After 30 days, I had not received my deposit back and contacted Mr. Eshuis who told me that Mrs. Wildenberg had financial problems and could not refund ME MY MONEY! Mr. Eshuis eventually arranged for half of the deposit to be refunded and said that she would repay the remaining amount as soon as possible. He then told me that I should feel sorry for her, as she was in a difficult situation! After months of waiting for the repayment of my remaining €3500, I engaged a lawyer to recover the outstanding amount. My lawyer contacted Mr. Eshuis, who washed his hands of the situation and stated that MTH was not liable. So they acted on behalf of a client who had not been properly vetted, did not ensure that their client complied with the contract they had agreed upon, ignored that their client was not enforcing the law regarding interfering with their tenants' property and walked away from the theft of €3500 of my money. This story is still ongoing as of October 2020 regarding attempting to recover the money through a collection agency. NOTE ABOUT DEPOSITS In the Netherlands, your deposit, unlike in other countries where I have lived, is not held or managed by the agent. It is paid to the landlord and they can do what they want with it and must return it contractually at the end of the rental agreement. They are not obliged to put it in a separate account. So if you have a landlord who is financially unstable, they can run off with your deposit and you only have civil recourse. It is not legally considered theft and is really difficult to recover.

A waste of time and impolite, from first contact to final signing, not recommended as a landlord or tenant.

If you are an expat and new to Amsterdam or the Netherlands, avoid this realtor. The same applies if you are a landlord considering expat tenants. They misled us and sent us away with false promises about the contract's readiness (while we remained in the dark) after we placed a bid. It took a week for them to show us the contract. We had no choice but to sign it on the spot due to the urgency of our personal problems. We didn’t ask for a second opinion as to whether the contract was fair and were not given the opportunity to provide comments regarding changes. The check-in consisted only of a key handover, and they did not prepare a detailed inventory list, unlike what we had to do in the United Kingdom (as tenants) or France (as landlords). We were fine with it, the apartment is not perfect (but has potential), but the wear and tear, mold, rust, etc. and other visible effects were significant and needed to be documented and approved by both parties - which didn’t happen. We even didn't record the meter readings. Unfortunately, we now have to deal with the problems directly with the landlord and hope for the best and most reasonable outcome. Hopefully, we will become as enthusiastic about the apartment as we were during our first viewing and it becomes our home base in Amsterdam. But the entire experience with MTH is one of poor communication, expectation management, and a lack of reliability and trust. Furthermore, they were too proud to admit their shortcomings.
