We had a property in mind that really appealed to us. During the viewing, the real estate agent immediately made it clear that there were already bids, which was clearly intended to create pressure. This didn't feel pleasant, but we decided to submit an offer through our own real estate agent—with the explicit mention that this was not our final bid. The next morning, we informed our real estate agent that we wanted to make a higher bid, but with a financing clause. Mid-afternoon, after much consultation and also with guarantors, we decided to accept a bid without conditions. Less than an hour later, we received notification that “the process was closed.” No explanation, no clarity. Later it turned out (through the seller himself, whom I happened to be able to speak to through an acquaintance) that the offer had already been accepted the night before. In other words: we were kept on hold for a whole day for something that had long since been settled. In my opinion very unprofessional. This real estate agent did not communicate transparently with us at any time and seems to have deliberately steered towards confusion or false hope. Instead of honesty, we got fog, delay and deception. And that while I was on vacation and my husband was home alone with two young children. The cherry on top: as ‘consolation’ we were told that the real estate agent will soon be putting another property up for sale where we would then “be allowed to view first”. And scant comfort after a particularly frustrating experience, and something buyers naturally don't want. A house is a large, expensive purchase — not an impulse purchase. When one of your dream houses passes you by in such an unequal and unclear way, and another (clearly inferior) property is then put forward as “compensation,” it feels disrespectful. Then you try to make it very easy for yourself as a real estate agent. We would absolutely not recommend this agency to serious buyers. This kind of practice unfortunately severely damages trust in real estate agents!
