Rick de Jong is a terrible guy. Success with it

Rick is the worst real estate agent ever! And a really unpleasant person. I can't believe I didn't leave a review earlier. This man tried to rip off both me and my landlord at the time. Failed to show up for appointments and made me take the blame. Cost me €1000's to get rid of this creepy guy. Please, find someone else!! My (dear) landlord also knew better than to get involved with this creep. He hadn't rented out his apartment against all promises.

I applied for several apartments and received an email stating that I am not qualified for this. Is this because I am not a Dutch national? I have a PhD and work in AI. I am better qualified than your staff.

I have sent multiple emails, but still no response. I begin to suspect that there is a case of fraud.

Ik reisde vanuit België naar Utrecht om dit makelaarskantoor te bezoeken, zodat ik vanaf augustus een appartement voor langere tijd kon huren. Op Google Street View leek het open en er stonden borden met het logo. Maar toen ik bij het kantoor aankwam, was de deur dicht en was er geen deurbel met de tekst "Huizenjacht". Ik probeerde te bellen, maar er nam niemand op. Teleurstellend. Waarschuwing: er is geen hulp ter plaatse!

Never rent out your property through this agency. First, they had Ewout and his wife employed who, at a certain point, engaged in dubious practices and left for Curaçao under a cloud. Then Rick took over from Ewout, who has absolutely no understanding of the profession. They distance themselves from Ewout's practices and want to take absolutely no responsibility for it, as if it had become a completely new company with a new owner. It remains Househunting, only with different employees.

Mafia-like practice. The apartment was left cleaner and tidier than found. And after (much too late) receiving the deposit back, €100 was deducted based on ‘bed linen’ for which payment had already been made at the time of signing the contract before the start of the rental period. During the handover of the property, I was told nothing about these costs and instead it was said how neat and clean the property looked. A signature was obtained and everything seemed okay. Not only was money withheld from my deposit due to the bed linen, but also based on so-called ‘limescale’ in the bathroom. While I always kept the entire house extremely clean. Every week I cleaned everything thoroughly again. It should be clear that House Hunting uses fabrications to deduct from the deposit as an extra revenue model. I have heard the same from fellow tenants. They even filed a lawsuit due to improper treatment.

I have been waiting for months to be able to write a review about this company. The experience, even before the move-in, was terrible. The day I moved in, the apartment was in a pitiful condition and no one ever came to clean it or do anything about it. Three weeks later, I received a message about an extra contract that I needed for renting the boiler. It is important to clarify that I received multiple e-mails with questions about services I had to hire, and this was never brought up. Four months later, I received a contract from a company that I had never heard of for heating. This was also never brought up, and when I asked about it and there was an argument, the answer was: 'We discussed it when we showed you the apartment,' which is a lie. I have all e-mails regarding this, and it never happened. So, in addition to my rent and services, I had to add two services that cost almost 200 euros per month. I could finally leave the apartment and according to the contract, I should get my deposit back within a maximum of one month. The day came, and one of them even said that the deposit was delayed. I send daily e-mails to everyone within the company, and only when a friend called them did they respond with the promise that I would get my deposit back. And that didn't happen. The last thing they said was that the landlord had to pay the deposit directly; I have never contacted the landlord, since supposedly the real estate agency was my contact person. So far, no one has responded to my e-mails, calls or WhatsApp messages. I have proof of everything I mention in this review, in case someone responds that it is not true. I would never recommend you to rent from these scammers.

Terrible service. Our house was seriously damaged and because these people are afraid of the tenants' association, they refused to use the deposit for our damage. They don't care what happens to your house. In the first 1 year that we rented out our house, we had more than 5000 euros in damage (excluding the damage to the walls and windows). See the photo: they think this is acceptable wear for a costly setup after 1 year of use!! AVOID AVOID AVOID if you are a landlord. Ps: it's not just about an oil stain, but more than 90% of the glass surface has scratches. Our custom-made blinds are also damaged and need to be replaced.

No stars earned for this real estate agency that clearly speaks up for the landlords... No reaction to emails, phone calls or letters by post. It is the worst real estate agency ever. I would not recommend them. They have withheld almost half of our deposit without clear explanation... The apartment we moved into was not clean and they told us that they had withheld about € 900 in cleaning costs!!! They are thieves!! I will not keep this quiet and demand my money back.

There was a hole behind the fridge which caused mice to get into the apartment causing people to get ill, the mice could be heard running through the walls and roof of the apartment in the middle of the night. When we talked to Rick De Jong he started to deny responsibility in anyway and blaming the tenants. He said that he would deduct money from the deposit and that any problems of pest are tenants responsibility. He returned a partial amount of the deposit without even saying anything and without solving any problems, real pathetic character. He also shows up with potential tenants to the house without announcement and takes these potential tenants into the house with shoes on walking around, something which is illegal in the Netherlands. Very dissatisfied with the provided service: repeatedly it appears that the administration is not in order (e.g., regarding the deposit) and they are very slow to respond via email. From my perspective, therefore not recommended.

Bad service. Registered for a house, after 2 weeks no response received at all. Reachable by phone, but then they pretend not to be home. They dismiss you immediately. You receive no information about your application, 'Just send an email'. A fine example of a company that has absolutely nothing for potential customers. If you are the type of house hunter who doesn't like to be kept informed, waits weeks and especially doesn't ask too much, then you are their perfect tenant! One word: Awful

The House Hunting team helped us find an apartment in Utrecht. The team was very professional and clear in their communication. From viewing the apartment to guiding us through the contract process, checking in and identifying the utility companies, the team was incredibly helpful. Kudos to Ewout, Ammadno and Anna for their excellent work and the fact that we have become one of their satisfied customers :) I definitely recommend contacting them if you're looking for a rental property, especially if you're an expat.

Looking for a house in the Netherlands, and especially in Utrecht, is a nightmare. (If you didn't know it yet, you do now). HouseHunting Utrecht helped me find my dream home! Both Anna and Ewout were great, extremely professional, helpful, and responded quickly. If you think this is the expectation from a real estate agent, then it's not. Here you don't need a paid subscription to respond, you aren't invited together with 10+ other people (with a very small chance of getting the apartment), and you don't spend your money on viewings, show interest and then never hear from them again. A real recommendation (and personally I am eternally grateful to you)

As an expat, I had a great experience with HouseHunting Utrecht. They showed us several houses in and around Utrecht until we found the right one within our budget. Also no extra costs or registrations. The responses could have been slightly faster, but it certainly wasn't unusual. All in all, a great experience.

Helaas heb ik als woningzoekende geen goede ervaring gehad met HH Utrecht. Sommige aspecten waren positief, maar uiteindelijk leek het me, gezien de contacten met dit makelaarskantoor, dat hun belangrijkste doel was om de deal te sluiten en vervolgens te verdwijnen. Ik had op geen enkel moment het gevoel dat service of de belangen van de huurder(s) voorop stonden; hun eigenbelang was de hoogste prioriteit.

We had our house sublet for 6 months through House Hunting Utrecht. For a good price, they took photos, put the house online on several sites, and advised us on the hows and whats of renting out your house. The viewings were also well organized by House Hunting. We found a suitable tenant within two weeks, and all contractual arrangements went very quickly and smoothly. This gave us a carefree six months. Definitely recommended if you want to sublet your house for a while!
