Ik was al twee jaar met mijn vriend op zoek naar een appartement, maar het werd pas echt serieus toen we het contract met Lion Makelaars tekenden. Louise was fantastisch; ze hield ons constant op de hoogte, stuurde ons nieuwe appartementen, ging waar mogelijk met ons mee naar bezichtigingen en wist onze verwachtingen realistisch te houden. Uiteindelijk hadden we binnen een paar maanden de sleutels van ons allereerste eigen appartement. Het was heel belangrijk om mensen om ons heen te hebben die echt om ons gaven en ons gedurende het hele proces kalm hielden! :)

Ze helpen je alleen als je een plek wilt huren. Maar als je vertrekt, houdt deze man een deel van de borgsom samen met anderen. Je krijgt de borg niet terug. My experience with Daniel from Lion Makelaars was terrible. Unfortunately, there is no option to express this by giving 0 stars. You would expect a real estate agent to know the basics of housing law and apply it to their clients. Do not expect this from Daniel: He was the real estate agent who handled the rental agreement for my previous apartment on Elandsgracht, Amsterdam. I was one of two independent tenants. After living there for 1.5 years, I received (not directly, but through my then-housemate) a message on December 7th that I had to leave the apartment by December 31st (!). This happened without me having any intention of leaving the apartment. It turned out that he not only didn't know that I lived there, but he also never drafted an official agreement (despite all requested documents being sent to him). After receiving this message, I tried hard to get in touch with him via email, messages and phone. Eventually, he picked up my calls and I spoke to an impolite, impatient man who tried to explain that they (the owner and he) planned to increase the rent by 650 EUR due to the increased value of the apartment and the increased tax for homeowners. He also added that he had already done so much for us (well, thanks), but he decided to try talking to the owner again. The result was that I was given until January 15th to vacate the apartment, which I did. I rejected the option of finding a new housemate and getting a new contract based on the updated monthly rent. After my move, I had to wait one month for the refund of the deposit (-150 EUR), despite having taken good care of the apartment for 1.5 years. The communication with Daniel was terrible - difficult to reach, unresponsive, unclear, misleading. I want to thank Daniel's assistant Louise for being kind and easy to get along with. Overall, after this experience, I am no longer surprised that housing agencies and owners are wreaking havoc on the Amsterdam housing market.
