Very disappointing experience with the mortgage advisor from Alpina Makelaars Our experience with the aforementioned mortgage advisor from Alpina Makelaars when applying for a mortgage was truly frustrating and disappointing. From the beginning, it became clear that he answered detailed questions only poorly. Instead of clear explanations or expert advice, we often received evasive answers with the message that we 'just had to have a bit of trust'. That is naturally not what you are hoping for when making such an important financial decision. Most of the time during the conversations was spent complaining about his previous and current colleagues. Very unprofessional to vent your complaints about systems or people to your clients. In addition, he initially tried to push us towards a completely new mortgage with another lender instead of taking over the existing mortgage. Only because we as customers insisted, was ultimately chosen for the better solution. That is what we consider to be the reverse of how it should be. We expect expert advice, where we as customers are advised about the best and most advantageous choice. That is something we had to figure out ourselves, and we had to hold our ground to get this advantageous option investigated. What followed was a series of negligence and poor communication. After starting the mortgage process, we heard nothing for weeks until we ourselves contacted them. Then it turned out that there was an error in the bank's system, causing a delay in the application – without us being informed about this. Errors and delays can happen, but not informing us about them is truly bad. Also afterwards the contact remained minimal to absent. Again, we heard nothing for weeks, and only upon inquiry did it turn out that documents from us were expected – but no one had informed us of this. Because of this passivity and poor follow-up, the file suddenly needed to be processed urgently, putting the deed's passing date at risk. The notary even warned that this date was probably no longer achievable. Even during scheduled contact times, the advisor did not respond at all. In the end, I as a customer – one week before the passing date – called all involved parties (mortgage advisor, bank and notary) myself to keep some control over the process and make the urgency of the situation clear. In the end, everything came just in time, but this was entirely due to our own efforts. The entire process went smoothly, unprofessionally and without the necessary guidance you may expect from a real estate agent or mortgage advisor. Delays and errors are human, and that is not what we're disappointed about. The poor communication and negligence is what we are truly angry about. Fortunately, there were still a few colleagues at the office who stood up for us on the last day and also put pressure on the situation. In short: we can absolutely not recommend Alpina. The lack of proactivity, minimal communication and the inability to manage the process have made arranging our mortgage a stressful and unnecessarily complicated experience.

At the end of our interest rate fix period, we were not properly informed about the possibilities of refinancing the mortgage or changing the type of mortgage. After repeatedly calling with different questions, we did not become any wiser. We did not experience helpfulness. Partly due to this, we ultimately made incorrect decisions. We believe that De Leeuw has failed in its duty of care.
