I had been dating my boyfriend for two years looking for an apartment, but it really got serious when we signed the contract with Lion Makelaars. Louise was fantastic; she kept us constantly informed, sent us new apartments, went with us to viewings wherever possible and managed to keep our expectations realistic. In the end, we had the keys to our very first own apartment within a few months. It was really important to have people around us who genuinely cared about us and kept us calm throughout the entire process! :)

My experience with Daniel from Lion Makelaars was terrible. Unfortunately, there is no option to express this by giving 0 stars. You would expect a real estate agent to know the basics of housing law and apply it to their clients. Do not expect this from Daniel: He was the real estate agent who handled the rental agreement for my previous apartment on Elandsgracht, Amsterdam. I was one of two independent tenants. After living there for 1.5 years, I received (not directly, but through my then-housemate) a message on December 7th that I had to leave the apartment by December 31st (!). This happened without me having any intention of leaving the apartment. It turned out that he not only didn't know that I lived there, but he also never drafted an official agreement (despite all requested documents being sent to him). After receiving this message, I tried hard to get in touch with him via email, messages and phone. Eventually, he picked up my calls and I spoke to an impolite, impatient man who tried to explain that they (the owner and he) planned to increase the rent by 650 EUR due to the increased value of the apartment and the increased tax for homeowners. He also added that he had already done so much for us (well, thanks), but he decided to try talking to the owner again. The result was that I was given until January 15th to vacate the apartment, which I did. I rejected the option of finding a new housemate and getting a new contract based on the updated monthly rent. After my move, I had to wait one month for the refund of the deposit (-150 EUR), despite having taken good care of the apartment for 1.5 years. The communication with Daniel was terrible - difficult to reach, unresponsive, unclear, misleading. I want to thank Daniel's assistant Louise for being kind and easy to get along with. Overall, after this experience, I am no longer surprised that housing agencies and owners are wreaking havoc on the Amsterdam housing market.

Toet brokers helped us well. The contact is good, fast and Cathelijne is always available. She also gives good tips for the styling of the house and thinks along about everything. A pleasant appearance therefore a real recommendation for everyone.

This review has been extended in response to the reaction to the original review. I have rented a houseboat for a year through The Perfect House. I have contacted Jasper. I am deeply disappointed with the behavior and attitude that I experienced. I found them unprofessional, rude, and unfriendly. I would not recommend them. In response to the reaction to my above review: More than two weeks ago you offered me the opportunity to sit down and talk in order to find a solution. I immediately replied with dates and times when I was available and an offer to look for others if no one fit. I have not yet received a response to that. I also asked for sympathy by offering part of my deposit to help me with the payment of my new apartment. Again, I have received no response. It is only thanks to the sympathy of my new landlord and her willingness to allow me to split my deposit over two months that I have not ended up in a difficult financial situation. The costs for replacing the damage to the boat (which I did not cause) can in no way even amount to 50% of my deposit. I would like nothing more than to resolve this situation. The word is with you.
