Expat Housing Network

My partner and I used this service when we moved from the United States. The low rating is due to the administrative and follow-up care. EHN registers you for your utilities (here they call that registering). Unfortunately, they registered me at the wrong address for my utilities. This caused huge problems and it took 3 years to fix this (for real!). When I called and e-mailed the company multiple times to get help or point out their mistake, I got no response. No callback, no e-mail, no further support. When you move to a new country, you want to be able to rely on the office you're working with to register your utilities at the correct address. Or – at a minimum – that they know how to register your utilities. All in all, I would not recommend this service.

Isabella and the team did fantastic work in finding a home and I am extremely happy with the result. Their online platform made it very easy to arrange viewings, and they were always reachable via WhatsApp to answer my many questions and gave me a lot of good advice. Hello, I have now activated EHN twice. Both times by Lilet. She is a wonderful person. She thinks quickly and has enough of half a word to find the best solution. She is pragmatic, diligent, friendly and very representative. I can recommend everyone to work with her and EHN.

The Expat Housing Network is unfortunately not suitable for independent expats or freelancers. The entire process feels lacking and far too restrictive. On their registration form, multiple service areas are listed, such as Utrecht and Rotterdam, but in reality they only serve Amsterdam – and selecting those other options causes the form to completely fail. The housing shown on their website is usually already rented out, making it impossible to see what's actually available. There is no map view of the housing and the communication assumes that you already have a Dutch phone number. Furthermore, they secretly screen applicants based on income – if you don't meet their internal threshold, you're immediately rejected without offering alternatives, such as demonstrating savings or offering prepaid rent. For everyone looking for housing that qualifies under the BRP regulation (Basic Residential Housing Program), especially freelancers or creatives, this service feels unintuitive and deliberately exclusive.

After months of searching on my own without success, I decided to collaborate with Diovana and Isabelle. On my first attempt, I won the bid for exactly the apartment I wanted. They gave me valuable insights into how the housing market in the Netherlands works, including what I could expect with overbids per city. That helped me adjust my expectations and my Funda search, so that I could focus on homes that actually met my requirements. They guided me through every step, so that I knew what to expect, and they were always warm and helpful.

An fantastic team. My contact person was Lilet Lasala, she was so knowledgeable and well-informed, guided me through what I found a difficult process and found my dream apartment. After I had rented the apartment, they also connected me with Utility Direct, who helped me with setting up my electricity, water and cable/internet. I can wholeheartedly recommend them.

Overall, I have had a great experience with Expat Housing Network, despite my situation being unique. I contacted them halfway through the process, after my offer on a house had been accepted, asking for help with checking documents, filling out the questionnaire, and doing price research. They handled everything thoroughly. Unfortunately, the deal did not go through after we saw the results of the structural survey, but EHN continued to support me throughout the entire process. I then asked for a full service package, but since they didn't have capacity at that time, they offered a reasonable partial refund of the deposit. There was some miscommunication at the beginning because everything went quite quickly, but nevertheless I appreciate their professionalism and would definitely recommend them for help with real estate transactions!

Disappointing experience – Unreliable communication – Lack of follow-up and professionalism I scheduled a meeting with Expat Housing Network on April 18, 2025, where they presented their services for selling homes throughout the Netherlands. I was initially impressed and decided to proceed further. However, after showing interest in hiring them, my e-mails remained unanswered. I scheduled a new meeting for Friday, May 9, 2025, because I still had not received a response – and no one picked up the phone after I waited approximately 15 minutes. Subsequently, an appointment was scheduled for today, May 12, 2025, to inform me whether they would accept me as a client. I waited more than 10 minutes in the Google Meet, but no one showed up. No communication, no follow-up, no excuses. This service level is very disappointing, especially from a company that claims to support expats during such an important process. I had expected much more professionalism and reliability.

We have been working with Expat Housing Network for 5 years and they have helped our expats with the greatest care and attention. Sometimes they even went the extra mile to help them find a home and feel at ease. Certainly in a challenging market, which is not always easy. Here's to the next 5 years!
