(Rental) broker Feenstra, Haren Experience: unfounded retention of deposit, unfriendly attitude, arrogant. From September 2017 to January 31, 2019, I rented the house at Fuutweg 26 for part-time occupancy due to work. A house with a mold sensitivity, single glazing, showering in a closet, a neglected backyard and front yard, bare spots in the laminate flooring, and rattling doorknobs. Rent price €975 excluding. Nice location near Sassenhein. At the end of the rental period, I worked hard to leave the house spotless and problem-free. January 31, 2019: final inspection with Mrs. from the real estate agency. A kitchen cabinet front was not clean enough, cleaned extra on the spot. Otherwise, no particularities, received the final report via email. No mention whatsoever of the deposit of €975 that I should receive back. Throughout February, emails about the deposit were sent to various people at the brokerage, to landlord J.B.: no response. On March 1, 2019: the landlord emailed that €266.50 will be withheld from the deposit because: 1. The house was not clean, 2. He bought new doorknobs, 3. The garden was ‘cleaned up’ and the green container had to be placed by the road. Later I hear that withholding the deposit is his right, because in the rental agreement it states that the landlord can override the final inspection report. Yes, but not unfounded and one-sided, of course. And the tenant has the right to rectify any defects. After several emails about this without response or effect, I contacted broker F. himself. Dismissed, with the closing sentence: “[..] and (I) consider the matter closed.” If you drive past Fuutweg 26, you can indeed see that the garden has been cleaned up (hedge and all shrubs removed).
